The difference between an email that gets deleted and one that gets a reply often comes down to one thing: does the sender *get* me?
In *The Machine System*, I detail a sophisticated method for behavioural profiling. But you don't need a complex system to start. You can build a powerful psychological profile in just five minutes with one tool: their LinkedIn profile.
This is a technique I teach in the addendums of the book, and it's too valuable not to share. Before you write a single word of outreach, spend five minutes answering these questions. It will transform your messaging.
The 5-Minute Profile Checklist
Open their LinkedIn profile and look for patterns, not just single data points.
Are they an Extrovert or an Introvert?
Look at their activity. Do they post and comment frequently with energetic language? (Extrovert). Or is their profile sparse, with a large gap between posts? (Introvert).
This helps you decide your tone. Extroverts often respond well to a direct, enthusiastic approach, while introverts may prefer a more reserved, data-driven message.
Are they Open or Conventional?
Check their interests and the language they use. Do they follow a wide range of creative topics and use words like "innovative" or "pioneering"? (Open). Or is their profile focused on traditional business metrics and proven results? (Conventional).
This tells you whether to lead with a bold new idea or a safe, reliable solution.
Are they a Big-Picture Thinker or Detail-Oriented?
Look at their job descriptions. Are they brief summaries of achievements (Big-Picture)? Or are they detailed, bullet-pointed lists of responsibilities (Detail-Oriented)?
This dictates how much information to include in your first message. Give the big-picture thinker the "why," and the detail-oriented person the "how."
Putting It Into Action
In just a few minutes, you can build a surprisingly accurate picture. A detail-oriented, conventional introvert needs a very different message than an open, big-picture extrovert.
The first might want a formal email with a clear agenda and supporting data. The second might respond better to a quick, energetic LinkedIn message with a link to a visionary article.
This isn't about putting people in a box. It's about speaking their language. It's the first step to moving beyond spam and into the world of intelligent, empathetic outreach.
Try it on your next ten prospects and watch your response rate climb.
